Here’s what makes it different from every other email app: default end-to-end encryption for all Proton-to-Proton messages. Email content, attachments, and embedded images all get encrypted on your device before they ever reach Proton’s servers. This zero-access architecture means even Proton’s own teams can’t read what’s inside your messages, and the whole system is backed by strict Swiss data privacy laws, which offer far stronger protections than most other regions. If you’re emailing someone on a non-Proton service like Gmail or Outlook, you can still use password-protected emails to lock messages behind a shared passphrase, extending that same encryption to external contacts.
