1. Meshmixer Installation & Initial Setup
Installing Meshmixer is super straightforward, no complicated configuration required. After finishing the basic program installation on your PC, launch the software directly. The default settings work fine for most casual 3D printing projects, so you don’t need to tweak advanced configurations at first.
Once opened, get started by importing your 3D model file. Simply click Import on the main interface to load your STL or compatible 3D mesh file. This is the starting point for all your editing and printing preparation work.
2. Basic Model Adjustment (Orientation & Size)
After importing a model, the first step is fixing its position and scale — two critical steps for successful 3D prints.
To adjust the print orientation: Head to Edit > Transform. A rotation coordinate axis will pop up. Click and drag the axis to rotate your model to a flat, print-friendly angle. Proper orientation helps avoid unnecessary support structures and printing errors.

You can add ready-made parts from the left Meshmix library. There are two simple types: Open Parts (white hemisphere icon) merge automatically with your base model, while Solid Parts (blue cube icon) only overlay the original model. If you add Solid Parts, remember to use the Make Solid tool in the Edit tab to eliminate intersecting volumes and unify the whole model.
For partial model modification, use the Select tool to mark unwanted areas, then hit Erase and Fill. The software will auto-delete the selected part and generate a smooth, flawless surface in seconds.
