Language Learning Tips
Start with Tutor Mode, not free chat. It’s tempting to jump straight into open conversation, but Tutor Mode walks you through core vocabulary and guided practice first. This is non-negotiable for total beginners — it teaches you basic phrases, key grammar, and formal vs. casual speech patterns before you throw yourself into unscripted talks.
Pick scenarios you’ll actually use. Skip the fancy debate or advanced storytelling topics at first. Stick to everyday stuff like ordering food, asking for directions, or talking about your workday. You’ll retain way more when you’re practicing words you can actually use in real life within a week.
Use the built-in tools instead of guessing. If you blank mid-sentence, hit “I’m Stuck” for a hint, or pull up the Word Bank to check vocabulary. There’s no shame in using crutches when you’re starting out; it’s way better than freezing up or spitting out nonsense.
Actually read the feedback. Don’t just glance at your score and close the app. The specific tips on pronunciation and word choice are where real improvement happens. Spend 30 seconds after each session reviewing what you can fix next time.
It’s not a perfect app, though. The biggest flaw right now is the speech recognition — it’s way too forgiving. During testing, even obvious mispronunciations and small grammar slips slid by without correction, and sometimes it accepted total gibberish as a valid response. That’s great for building confidence, but if you’re relying on it to fix bad habits, you’ll hit a wall pretty fast. Complete beginners might not even realize they’re making mistakes at all.
You should also know the free version is pretty limited. You get a handful of starter conversations and basic feedback, but most of the scenario library and full detailed reports are locked behind a subscription. There’s also no real writing or reading practice built in — this is 100% a speaking and listening tool. If you’re studying for a proficiency test or want to learn character writing, you’ll need to pair it with another app.
